Realist Vision Rooted in Lisu Tradition, Capturing the Beauty and Challenges of Rural Yunnan
That’s why I built this space—to forge connections, share insights, and together push the boundaries of what is possible in the ever-evolving world of photography.
Born into a Lisu community in the mountainous regions of Yunnan, China, I grew up immersed in nature’s lush rhythms—picking figs on winding trails, wading through crystal-clear streams, and listening to elders sing of ancestral migrations. Over time, industrialization scarred the once-pristine hillsides and threatened the cultural fabric that bound families together. Guided by the mentorship of renowned National Geographic photographer Lu Guang—who was later arrested by the Chinese Governemnt for documenting environmental injustices—I learned to use a camera as a powerful tool of awareness, photographing the pollution of Nujiang to spark conversations among local youth and challenge government decision-making.
Beyond environmental documentation, I also devotes countless hours to capturing portraits of elders, preserving their legacy and offering them a dignified final image. Armed with a Leica M11 and FujiFilm XT5, I traveled from village to village, ensuring each individual can be remembered in their finest attire. In a lighter vein, a love of anime—ranging from ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデン (Violet Evergarden) and 古見さんは、コミュ症です (Komi Can’t Communicate) to ニーア オートマタ (NieR:Automata) and ゼルダの伝説 (The Legend of Zelda)—has led to vibrant cosplay photography sessions. Whether helping cosplayers channel their favorite characters or cosplaying as Link from ゼルダの伝説 ブレス オブ ザ ワイルド (Breath of the Wild), I approach each shoot with the same drive: to celebrate creativity and cultural expressions in all their forms.
In everything I do, from environmental advocacy to honoring ancestral traditions, the mission remains clear: to preserve and share the stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and remembered.
